Newton vs. Dalton for Rookie of the Year

I'm making this hub because I have heard a lot of talk about who deserves the Rookie of the Year Award. I myself, being a Panther's fan, could be considered to be biased. Maybe I am, but it doesn't disprove the facts.

Dalton completed 58.1 percent of his passes, Newton completed 60 percent. Cam Newton accounted for 21 touchdowns through the air, and 14 on the ground. All together, he accounted for 35 touchdowns. Andy Dalton threw for 20 touchdowns, and ran for one. Dalton accounted for 14 less touchdowns. Let's not forget Newton's uncanny ability to destroy records. He broke the record for passing yards in a game by a rookie, passing yards in a season by a rookie, rushing touchdowns in a season by a any QB, first QB EVER to pass for over 4,000 yards and run for over 500 yards, and more! He should be a lock for the award!

Many people making arguments for Dalton as ROY, are making them because his team made it to the playoffs. The problem being, this award is not a team award.......it is an individual one. Of course you must include how well their teams have done, because it is a factor. Last year Newton's Panthers were worst in the league. Not only in standings, but also in offense, in nearly every category. They were dead last in yards from scrimmage, points, points per game, and passing yards. They went from 32nd to 7th in total offense, from 32nd to 13th in passing yards per game, and went from 32nd to 5th in points per game. They did this with a lackluster defense, which ranked 28th at the end of the year. (Bengal's defense ranked 7th) They went from 2-14 to 6-10. They also lost 5 or more games by a touchdown or less. A few more big plays, or a few less mistakes, and we are talking playoffs.

Not to mention, Cam outscored the whole Panther's team from last year! Think about it. Cam accounted for 35 touchdowns right? That's 210 points. The Panthers scored only 196 a year ago.

Cam Newton made the Panthers relevant again. They knew going into each game, they had a legitimate chance to win. It's a feeling they have been without for some time. It's a feeling their fans have been without for some time. Cam did more for the Panthers than just stats. He gave them hope, and relevancy. If anyone else got it, it would be an injustice.

Who should win Rookie of the Year?

  • Andy Dalton
  • Cam Newton

So.. It's pretty clear, that you have made your mind (;

But i can't say i disagree with you. Cam Newton has been great for the Panthers this season. Bengals made it to the play-offs, because of the potential of the team, and a lucky wild card.

What Cam Newton has done for the rather weak panthers team is quite impressive. As you state in the end. There should be no discussion about who should be highest seeded among these two.

I think you should refrase the question to Cam Newton vs. Aldin Smith (14 sacks) (:

Pandiani out..

I agree with Pandiani , the panthers D sucked! Cam Newton put the panthers in the place to win most of their games, but their D didn't come threw usually. Alfonso Smith would be considered for rookie of the year, he is a beast!

Yeah Pandiani, that would be a better question. lol! However, I didn't think about it, but they have a rookie of the year for offense and defense. So, they wouldn't be competing against each other anyway. But if they did, you would have to throw in von miller. I mean, the broncos were dead last, last year in defense. They only went up to 23rd in the NFL, but they made the playoffs. Thanks to a weak division.

And yeah Caleb, the panther's D was not good. Beason went down which jacked up the year at D. If he would have played we would prob have won those 3 or 4 games we only lost by 7 points or less. He is a big difference maker.

Caleb Roberts 4 months ago

Yes he does. But its team work. Not one player team, especially in football. And i no their D isn't good ;)

Oh i know. But just think about it. What if Patrick Willis went down in week 1 or 2? Or maybe Aldin Smith? I don't believe the 49ers would have as good as a record as they do now. Although it is a team effort, one person can make the difference. Which I know you know that, just sayin.

Caleb Roberts 4 months ago

Yes i do. But i think the 49ers still would be where their at right now even if they didn't have Aldin smith. Not saying aldin Smith is bad, just saying their D would still be great even if they didn't have him.

You might be right caleb. Of course we can never really know. But if you take him out, it could have been different. But then again, they are in one of the weakest divisions. But they still beat good teams and played great, def deserve the spot they have. Which has not been the case the last few years with the NFC West. They have crept in with 8-8 or 7-9 records. But you take away his presence you never know. Of course Willis is a little bit more vital to the D. Being the leader and all.

Caleb Roberts 4 months ago

Yes. But he is a completely different subject, were talking about rookies not veterans. Clay Matthews is one of the most vitalest defensive players out there! But i do agree that they play in one of he weakest divisions and have crept in the playoffs. But y San fran defends so well is bc they allllll play together and play the best they can. Its not just Smith or Willis, its the whole D.

Well i was just saying how taking one person out could make a difference. I'm not saying taking out Willis would have made them miss the playoffs. It could have, but not saying im 100% positive it would have. He is a great asset to the team. So I would have to believe his absence would influence them. No doubt they played great together. Kind of reminds me of the Ravens and Bears D of old. But even then, if you took Ray Lewis or Urlacher out away from the D, it would have made a huge difference. That's all im sayin.

Yeah i agree with you.

I might be by myself on this one but I am so tired of hearing cam newtons name, that I dont really care if the worst player in the NFL got "rookie of the year" as long as it is not him. - now to all the people who want to go get a group together and form a angry mob to come after me, please dont. his comment was only typed in attempt to make my husband angry. Lol i hope it worked.

lol! it did not work. :) I actually thought it was funny as mess! haha! You should make a hub about being tired of Cam's name. Actually there already is one I think. A guy made it. Because all his girl wanted to talk about was Cam! haha!
